BRUSSELS- A delegation from the European Parliament will make its first official visit to Libya since the fall of the regime of Muammar Gaddafi. The news was announced by the chair of the European Parliament’s delegation for North Africa, Antonio Panzeri (from Italy’s Democratic Party), who will be part of the mission that lasts until next Sunday, along with four other Euro MPs.

The visit, a statement says, “will be the opportunity to analyse the role of Europe in the area from an economic and financial point of view and in terms of support for the processes of transition, and the role that the European Parliament can play in contributing to the process of democratic reform in Libya”.

According to the official timetable, “Euro MPs will travel to Tripoli and Benghazi to meet the President of the National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdul Jalil, and the former Prime Minister, Mahmoud Jibril”.
